Using PTCL/Tenda W150D/Micronet SP3367NL as a Wireless Router (Ethernet Mode)

Hi!

As per request, I would like to quickly go over the process of using the W150D/SP3367NL as a 'Wireless Router' i.e., not using the dsl connection/telephone port but using one of the LAN ports as a WAN port! Here it is:

Notes:
- I am configuring W150D with SP3367NL's firmware in this case, but, the UI should be similar to the firmware from both Tenda and PTCL ISP
- I am using a dsl modem in bridge mode (configured for PTCL ISP) with the aim of setting up a pppoe connection (for authentication) on the W150D to do all the routing providing lan and wireless connectivity! The ISP is PTCL but this shall also work with other ISPs that use pppoe even including Nayatel (FTTH/FTTU)!

1. Login to the router. If the wizard shows up, just click on Advanced Settings to land on the Status page!
 2. Goto Advanced Setup->Connection Mode

(To continue reading, please click on 'Read More')

3. Select Ethernet Mode and click Apply! Carefully Read and then Accept the warning notice to proceed!
 4. Goto Advanced Setup->WAN Service->ETH Interface and click on Add
 5. Now, you may choose which LAN port to use ... the default is LAN Port 4 or eth3  ... it is the one next to the telephone line connector and farthest away from the power switch ... single service is fine in this case!

Now, the selected LAN port will act as the WAN port! Here is a picture of the such setup from Tenda:
http://tenda.com.cn/userfiles/xieyueOfficeImageTemp/clip_image004_0009.jpg

 6. Click Apply/Save when you have configured it as per your needs
 7. Goto Advanced Setup->WAN Service->Connection Setting and click on Add
8. Here, you may select WAN service type! I am going to use PPPoE as per my needs as described above in the 'Notes' section! If you use 'shared connection' as it's called here in Pakistan, you'll have to ask your provider for connection type! Like, if you have been assigned a Static IP or if you'll be assigned an IP address by a DHCP server on the provider's side, you'll have to select IPoE and enter the same on next page!
9. After selection (pppoe in this case), input your connection details as per your ISP and account ... defaults are okay in this case
10. Select default gateway and/or priority ... in this case, we only have one ... so we'll just proceed to the next step
11. Here, you may select your DNS Server(s) as per your needs ... I like to use either Norton's ConnectSafe service https://dns.norton.com/ or Comodo's SecureDNS service https://www.comodo.com/secure-dns/ ... in this case, we'll just proceed with the defaults!
12. Review and then Apply/Save
13. Okay, so that probably should be it then!
14. Success! It's a very nice option to have indeed!
15. Everything is working fine!

Hope this helps!

Next, we'll try to see how an 'extra' W150D/SP3367NL may be used to extend WiFi coverage!

  2. after updating to sp3367 firmware, i am receiving signals of two wifi
    1. primary wifi
    2. wareless virtual access point (with name of wl0_guest1)

please help me how to disable this virtual access point?

  3. @Mudassir: Yes that may happen but not with every firmware version! There are two options that you may try:

    1. You may set the number of clients to 0 and also hide the guest SSID (easier method but does not 'properly' disable the SSID)

    2. You may backup your configuration and open it (the .conf file) in a editor such as Notepad++ or gVim!

    Look for the following:
and add under this section, this line:
You may note that this line is already there for other guest SSIDs

Finally, save and upload this configuration!

    Hope this works!

    Regards,
    Ahmed

  5. @fawadfadi Hello!

Well there isn't much info (router firmware, laptop connection how, wireless network details excluding private info, etc ...) to go on and there could be a number of reasons, but, we could start by the following:

    - Under Wireless section on the router's interface, open the "Station Info" link and check whether or not an IP has been assigned to the 'problem' device! If not, then, try the next step
    - Disable any security on the wireless (open network) with all bands (b/g/n) selected for maximum compatibility and try browsing on the 'problem' device! If successful, then, find out the compatible security settings for your device (WEP->WPA->WPA+WPA2->WPA2 AES only)
    - If you still cannot browse, check whether you have changed any advanced wireless settings (if running nonptcl firmware) like Afterburner/Framebursting or even WMM No-ACK as some wifi chipsets might be incompatible or may cause problems!

    Hope this helps!

  8. @fawadfadi

    Hello Again!

    You are welcome!

As far as the firmware is concerned, unfortunately, I don't (currently) have any firmware image for W150D from PTCL! There does not seem to be any update to the firmware from PTCL either! And as you have observed, the difference seems to be of only the logo and color theme between firmware from PTCL and the one from Tenda!

I would suggest to run latest firmware either from Tenda or Micronet Taiwan as it is likely to contain bug and security fixes (although some new ones may slip through)!

    Ahmed

    1. Hello!

If you are using the router yourself, then you can try the following:
      - Use adsl router as a wireless router as shown here!
      - after that, configure proxy on every device you have

However, if you want to implement this in an office setting, you can take a look here!

    1. Hello!

If you can reconfigure the router by yourself or you can backup and restore configuration settings, then, you could try a reset to default settings. Also, try using the quick setup page for basic wifi configuration and see if it enables the advanced wifi settings.

If you still have problems let me know!

    1. Hello!

Would you please confirm the model of the router again ... I could only find references to the Sagem F@ST 2804 router from STC and not the 2894 one! Thanks!

Technicolor TG582n: Info, Configuration and Usage Options

Hi! DANT-T and DANT-1 variants DANT-T and DANT-1 variants The Technicolor TG582n ( quick specs , user guide ) seems to be quite popular with ISPs and can be found in branded, sometimes locked*, form throughout. Fortunately, it works really well once properly configured and it is (usually) easy to unlock by flashing it with an unlocked firmware. One thing to take into consideration is that it comes in two main variants, the DANT-1 and DANT-T, with each variant only accepting it's own firmware (unless you are installing OpenWRT ). Firmware Update: Now, when it comes to flashing the firmware, we need: (Windows 7 is recommended) - Thomson Upgrade Wizard   - User privileges (username and password for user authorized to flash firmware ... for some branded ones we don't need one once router has been reset but for some like O2 we need the user SuperUser with password the Serial Number of router) - (Unlocked/Generic) Firmware for the

PTCL's (newer) Wireless n 150mbps W150D xDSL Router by Tenda Part2

From the hardware point of view, the PTCL/Tenda W150D is not much different from other BCM6328 based routers but the difference surely lies in the software/firmware ... so let's take a look at the gui side of things ... From the start it was apparent that the firmware for PTCL was not 'special/locked' one and just used image replacement replacing Tenda's images/logos with those for PTCL ... anyways it also didn't seem to work well, felt kind of like a beta version of the firmware ... couldn't hold onto some settings ... my long line and difficult stats didn't help either (awaiting conversion from copper to fiber) ... so in desperation I looked at firmware updates for the router on Tenda's website knowing full well that a corrupted/interrupted/slightly-changed firmware update would brick the router with no obvious way to recover as serial & jTAG pinouts are not known (there are some test points ... but lack of interest) and no full flash backup c

BT Home Hub v2 Type A: Info, Unlock & Configuration

Hello Again! Next up is the BT Home Hub v2* Type A home ADSL Wireless Router by Thomson/Technicolor (more info at OpenWRT wiki ). Again, this router accepts only BT specific/approved domain names for username of dsl and must be 'unlocked' to be used with other ISPs. Such 'unlocking' (thanks to btsimonh and Surreliz3) also allows more configuration options, though firmware upgrade options might become limited. As with the BTHH v1 & v1.5 , this router can be 'unlocked' via jTAG method but there is also the relatively easier software method provided the firmware version currently on the BTHHv2A is lower than version 8.1.H.U.  Unlock: I 'unlocked' mine via the software method a long time ago so I won't be able to post screenshots of the process (have yet to try the jtag method on one with newer firmware that I also happen to have), but, here is the process as described on the now defunct psidoc.com website (the links may
