TalkTalk D-Link DSL-3780: Info and Use with Other ISPs

Hi! Security Alert: This router has been found vulnerable to Mirai worm. Here are some steps to try to prevent such attacks (disconnect the 'internet' cable and reboot first just in case): 1. Change default admin password if you haven't done so (Change via Console is preferred) 2. Disable Remote Management (may prevent future updates though ... manual update would be needed if new firmware is released) 3. Remove additional users from config file (Advanced) - Save the current router configuration via Maintenance tab from Advanced GUI to a PC - Edit the config file for "Account" section and remove the extra users apart from admin by deleting the Entry1 and Entry2 sub-sections Note: One can also change the default password for the admin user here if not already changed. Be sure to change the console password as well! <Account> <Entry0 username="admin" web_passwd="admin"...

TalkTalk D-Link DSL-2780: Info and Use with Other ISPs

Hello! I actually wanted to write about the BT ones first starting with older (but still relevant) models and come to D-Link later but upon receiving many requests, I have decided to write about this particular model first!!! This is a good router (I tried it out for some time) provided by TalkTalk to its customers! It is also found 'dumped' here in Pakistan along with all the other routers. It has some good specifications as well! There is a review of it over here . So, how do you use it with other ISPs that require usernames (for dsl) not allowed by this router??? All one has to do is to configure the router using the 'Setup Wizard' and just click OK for the popup that pops up when you have to input the username for your dsl connection (any modern browser should disregard it). Then, after a few seconds, you are presented with the next page of the wizard! This method also works on the DSL-2680!!! Note: For tweaking the default settings like MTU and Di...

D-Link DSL-G604T aka "The Goat" ADSL Wireless Router

Hello! (Mine is not in its best shape, so I have used these three exterior promotional images from d-link) This is quite an old router but still quite useful here ... there is loads of info on it on the web! It is based upon the AR7 chipset by Texas Instruments ( for details ) and can use custom and/or modified firmware images for such routers while being fairly robust (until the bootloader is intact)! There are also many tools for it! The one I have is the UK A1 revision that is amongst the initial offerings (later revisions officially support ADSL2+) and officially supports adsl (upto 8Mbps) connections. Let's have a look inside:   From the last image, it is clear that same design is used for different models ... in fact one can use firmware for newer models on this older model though it is not confirmed that adsl2+ works or not when you do ... some people suggest that this A1 revision has h/w limitation(s) ... not much of a problem as I hav...
