O2 Wireless Box II (Thomson SpeedTouch TG585v7): Info, Use with Other ISP and Configuration

Hi!

Next we have the locked down version of the Thomson SpeedTouch TG585v7 (Specifications, wikidevi) router in the form of O2 Wireless Box II. Fortunately, one can install (compatible) firmware (apart from changing CFE via jTAG) by BE that is much closer to generic firmware allowing the router to be configured easily for other ISPs (and not only other ISPs, but, can also be configured differently such as a Wireless Router with one LAN port acting as WAN port and more). Here are some pictures of the router itself:

Firmware Update:

(To continue reading, please click on 'Read More')

- We'll reset the configuration:
 username: Administrator
password: Serial Number on back of router

- Static IP (Optional for Win 10 as it has it's own mind ... Recommended for Win 7 and earlier):

- Now, we'll use Thomson's Upgrade Wizard to upload the firmware:
(to restore to O2 firmware, use the following utility ... may have to run in compatibility mode)

 - Important: Here, we'll have to use the account "SuperUser" (as Administrator cannot update firmware for O2) with the password being the Serial Number printed on the back of the router

- Windows Firewall may ask for access as well (due to the point about handling of Static IPs in Win 10 made above)

- Success

- It is a good idea to reset to default settings again:

- Now, the router is 'unlocked' allowing us to configure the router easily for use with other ISPs!

Configuration (as ADSL Wireless Router):

We'll be using Thomson's Configuration Wizard utility (using the iso with a virtual disc utility may be easier) to configure the router though advanced users may find the CLI approach more useful with finer details and controls available:

- Again, we'll have to use compatibility troubleshooter to run the utility (win 10 here)

 - The default user is Administrator with password being the Serial Number printed on back of the router

- There are many options here including configuring the router as Wireless Router as well, but, Routed PPP is the one for ADSL configuration

- In this case, we'll configure it for the ISP PTCL (ONU/Fiber Connection)

- Note: The Security key sometimes does not change depending upon the version of configuration wizard! It can be configured later via the router's web GUI

- Note: Sometimes, the "Automatic Web Interception" option may disrupt browsing. This option can be disabled via the Home -> Thomson Gateway -> Configuration menu like shown below

Optional Configuration:

With access to Telnet and the CLI Reference guide, one can configure many hidden and/or extra options like some of the following:

- Changing DNS server

- Modifying PPP settings (like LCP Echo settings need to be 'relaxed' for ISP PTCL here)

  1. Thank you very much,

This has helped re-configure my O2 router to use with my new ISP for ADSL broadband.
The only note is that I had to use the setup_wizard_r7.203_mh_v1.12 because the setup_wizard_r8_mh_v1.17 would not give me the option to re-configure anything.

    Thanks again.

  2. Just to update that the above process will not work on PlusNet "TG 585v7" branded router.

If anyone is searching for locked Thomson TG 585v7 router on PlusNet, use following link to upgrade firmware.

    1. Hello!

Thanks for letting us know. Generally, the routers from plusnet are not locked down though they might have branded firmware such that they can be configured via the Thomson Configuration Wizard or via the CLI.

Do let us know which firmware works best for you along with information about your ISP.

      Regards,
      Ahmed

  5. Same here, the default SuperUser on my O2 Wireless Box II was O2Br0ad64nd. This thread was a big help even 5 years later. Thank you Ahmed.

Technicolor TG582n: Info, Configuration and Usage Options

Hi! DANT-T and DANT-1 variants DANT-T and DANT-1 variants The Technicolor TG582n ( quick specs , user guide ) seems to be quite popular with ISPs and can be found in branded, sometimes locked*, form throughout. Fortunately, it works really well once properly configured and it is (usually) easy to unlock by flashing it with an unlocked firmware. One thing to take into consideration is that it comes in two main variants, the DANT-1 and DANT-T, with each variant only accepting it's own firmware (unless you are installing OpenWRT ). Firmware Update: Now, when it comes to flashing the firmware, we need: (Windows 7 is recommended) - Thomson Upgrade Wizard   - User privileges (username and password for user authorized to flash firmware ... for some branded ones we don't need one once router has been reset but for some like O2 we need the user SuperUser with password the Serial Number of router) - (Unlocked/Generic) Firmware for the

PTCL's (newer) Wireless n 150mbps W150D xDSL Router by Tenda Part2

From the hardware point of view, the PTCL/Tenda W150D is not much different from other BCM6328 based routers but the difference surely lies in the software/firmware ... so let's take a look at the gui side of things ... From the start it was apparent that the firmware for PTCL was not 'special/locked' one and just used image replacement replacing Tenda's images/logos with those for PTCL ... anyways it also didn't seem to work well, felt kind of like a beta version of the firmware ... couldn't hold onto some settings ... my long line and difficult stats didn't help either (awaiting conversion from copper to fiber) ... so in desperation I looked at firmware updates for the router on Tenda's website knowing full well that a corrupted/interrupted/slightly-changed firmware update would brick the router with no obvious way to recover as serial & jTAG pinouts are not known (there are some test points ... but lack of interest) and no full flash backup c

BT Home Hub v2 Type A: Info, Unlock & Configuration

Hello Again! Next up is the BT Home Hub v2* Type A home ADSL Wireless Router by Thomson/Technicolor (more info at OpenWRT wiki ). Again, this router accepts only BT specific/approved domain names for username of dsl and must be 'unlocked' to be used with other ISPs. Such 'unlocking' (thanks to btsimonh and Surreliz3) also allows more configuration options, though firmware upgrade options might become limited. As with the BTHH v1 & v1.5 , this router can be 'unlocked' via jTAG method but there is also the relatively easier software method provided the firmware version currently on the BTHHv2A is lower than version 8.1.H.U.  Unlock: I 'unlocked' mine via the software method a long time ago so I won't be able to post screenshots of the process (have yet to try the jtag method on one with newer firmware that I also happen to have), but, here is the process as described on the now defunct psidoc.com website (the links may
